John (Jay) Garrett
I first wanted to be a forest ranger when I was in first grade. This was quickly followed by zoologist, astronomer, and then jet pilot. It soon became clear to me that it wasn’t the fields of study that I was drawn to, but the stories I could tell about them. As I developed a love for reading and writing, my desire to be a storyteller grew into a life-long passion and a career.
As an English teacher I try to bring my love for telling and exploring stories to my classes. I believe there is no future that being a better writer and reader can’t help prepare you for. I aim to cultivate life-long explorers and hope to help my students see the artistic and intellectual value of texts from all genres. Most of all my goal as a teacher is to encourage students to develop their own unique way of viewing and communicating with the world.
